Zachary was a prayed-for baby. He has a brother, Garrett age 11 and a sister, Amy age 9. Christmas 1997, Garrett asked for a new baby brother. His whole family was thrilled when Garrett's mom became pregnant within two months. When his mom had her second doctor visit, and the whole family went, and they all heard his loud and fast heartbeat. It suddenly became very real to everyone. Zachary was an active baby in the womb, and his mom felt him move very early on. He was very active. His first sonogram was scheduled and his mom bought a tape to film it. Everyone was there again, although his father had a lunch meeting and barely made it before they started the sonogram. It seemed to take longer than usual. The tech asked a few questions, left, and then came in again with another woman who looked again and said they were done. Questions to the X-ray tech went unanswered, and when they took the kids out of the room, they told Zachary's mom and dad that he was dead. After seeing the doctor, it was decided he would induce labor, and Zachary was born at 5pm. The doctor showed them how the cord had been twisted in several spots, and that was what had caused Zachary's fate. Zachary's dad and mom held him for a long time. He was 6 inches long, weighed 5 oz., and looked just like his big brother, Garrett, who had longed so much for him. He will always be loved and remembered.
