OBIT- 'Hardin E. Runnels 85, Indian war veteran and for 52 years an honored citizen of San Marcos died at his Home, 217 East Hutchison street, at 12:05 (noon) Thursday, March 29, 1934. He had been in bad health for over a year and his immediate illness had continued for several weeks.
Mr. Runnels was born August 8, 1849 at Brookridge, Virginia and came to Texas when quite young. In his early manhood he served in Company B, Eighth Regiment of Cavalry most of his service being in connection with the suppression of Indian raids on the frontier and he could give many interesting and thrilling experiences which transpired during this period. He retired from active business here some fifteen years ago.
He was married at Fredericksburg October 19, 1880 to Miss Emma S. Breautigam to which union was born nine girls. Of those, two are dead, Mrs. Lillie Butler and Mrs. Leola Baldwin. Those surviving are, Mrs. Jas. Forsythe, Forest Hill, La.; Mrs. Howard,Swift Uvalde; Mrs. J. S. Smith, Topeka, Kan.; Mrs. Fred Geyer, San Antonio; Mrs. Garnett Smith, Lucas Ky . Walter Howard and Mrs. Don Beasley,
Funeral services will be at the home at 3:30 p.m. Friday with interment in the city cemetery.'
