STANLEY HARVEY WALKER

Our loving, kind, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Stanley Harvey Walker, 69, of Lindon, died April 20, 1994 of complications from cancer in Provo, Utah.
He was born July 3, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lucile Harvey and Harold Swenson Walker. He married Lorna Cowley September 3, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities, including High Council, ward mission leader, stake missionary, stake financial advisor, two Sunday School presidencies, Priest Quorum advisor for 53 boys, host and greeter at the Missionary Training Center, and Name Extraction missionary. He also played on several All-Church softball and basketball teams. One of the highlights and great joys of this life (next to his family and grandchildren) was the mission he and his wife served in the New Zealand Temple Visitors Center from 1989-91.
He attended schools in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1942. He graduated from BYU in 1948 with a degree in economics. He then worked for Mountain Bell for 15 years. He later became a successful stock broker. He ventured into politics and was named to the Lindon Planning Commission, and was later elected Mayor of Lindon. He was elected to the position of Utah County Treasurer and served three terms. He was asked to teach business courses at BYU and ended up teaching personal finance for 17 years.
He loved his country, was proud to have served during World War II for 27 months in the Pacific.
He was active in business and was involved in incorporating several corporations and served on numerous committees and boards of directors, in addition to being president of the Lions and Junior Chamber of Commerce.
He was involved in Boy Scouting for over 20 years, and achieved the rank of Eagle. He was a merit badge counselor for almost 30 years. He was an avid golfer and was always very proud of two separate holes-in-one.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Patricia of San Francisco, Calif.; Harold Stanley (Kellie) of Phoenix, Ariz.; Jeanne McCollum (Evan) of Castle Rock, Colo.; and Holly Kay Meiners (Michael) of Lindon. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Paul, Matt, Shawn, Craig and Allison of Lindon; and Tyler, Jacob, and Luke of Castle Rock; two sisters, Anne W. Smith and husband, Percy, Orem; and Carol W. Stevens and husband, Hillman, Salt Lake City.
The viewing will be held on Friday, April 22, from 7-9 p.m. at the Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at the Lindon 4th Ward, 731 East Center, in Lindon, with a viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services.
