Came to Charleston with his father John Abraham Motte from Antigua in 1704. He was appointed the public treasurer in 1743.

Jacob Motte Esquire was born on November 29, 1700, in Dublin, Ireland, the child of John Abraham and Sarah Mary Hill. He married Elizabeth Martin and they had 17 children together.

He then married Anne Lebrasseur and they had two children together.
