PLEASE BE AWARE: The Will of Maria Varleth Teller posted here will correct the misinformation that Jenneke's mother was Margaret Duncanson. In Maria's will she mentions only her own children listing her " younger daughter Janneke Schuyler's children." She makes no mention of William Teller's children by Margaret. The lineage of the Duncanson's is NOT part of the Schuyler lineage. Of course with the Teller and Varleth ancestors, I welcome all other researchers.

But again MARIA VARLETH TELLER was the MOTHER of Jenneke Teller Schuyler without any doubt at all.

We own several documents about Maria's family including one in her own handwriting in Old Dutch which she wrote to Johannes Abeel before she died in 1701 giving him directions as to all the monies that needed to be collected to "right" her estate. We have posted it on Maria's.memorial for all to view by using the "View Original" button. Maria was a very bright, cleared headed woman with a clear steady hand. After a year of futile attempts to find a translator of Old Dutch we located someone who took a year to research and translate and transcribe it the Old Dutch and English. Because of our interest in Maria and Jenneke we have researched them both in great depth for more than 30 years. Anyone with questions please feel free to contact me by clicking on my name (maintainer) below. Beyond that I have researched the Schuyler family for more than 65 years and provided a good deal of information to Florence Christoph's book.

Other information comes from the book SCHUYLER GENEALOGY— A COMPENDIUM OF SOURCES PERTAINING TO THE SCHUYLER FAMILIES IN AMERICA PRIOR TO 1800 BY FLORENCE CHRISTOPH C 1987, THE FRIENDS OF SCHUYLER MANSION—a fine well documented source of updated and corrected information from COLONIAL NEW YORK BY GEORGE WASHINGTON SCHUYLER based on actual records and online help that GWS never had.
All Schuyler genealogists and historians should reference this source. It does not tell the stories of their lives that Colonial New York does which is so important but it is a very accurate recording of the data of our forebears

And thank you to Donna for creating her many memorials including Jenneke's

And so to dear Jenneke Teller Schuyler

Jenneke was the daughter of Maria Varleth Teller and her third husband Willem Teller. The name can be spelled many ways but Jenneke is one of them. Spelling in those days was not consistent to say the least.
Jenneke was fortunate to be born to Maria Varleth Teller and Willem. Maria was a strong role model and a help-mate to her throughout her life. She had half sisters and step sisters. More later

On November 26, 1684, she married Arent Philipse Schuyler at the Albany Dutch Church in Albany, NY. She was 19 and Arent was 22
Arent and Jenneke Teller were married Nov 26, 1684 in the Albany Reform Church ym & yd both living at NA (New Amsterdam)
They had six children

—1 Margaretta Schuyler bp. 27 Sep 1685 at same church sp Andries Teller & Margarerita Schuyler
She married Charles Oliver lic dated 7 Nov 1704. It is her children that Arent is attending to in his will. He speaks of his "daughter Oliver's children." This has confused some in believing Arent had a daughter Olivia. (See the attached will and the ending explanation.)
Margaretta Schuyler Oliver died about 1719 She was only 34 years old.

—2 Philip Schuyler bp 11 Sep 1687 in Albany Ref Ch — sp Pieter Schuyler & Maria Teller.

NYG&B Vol 2 p 267
As can be seen only three of those children survived.

They had moved from Albany to New York as early as Feb 28, 1694 where they joined the Dutch Church there

She did not make the trip to Pompton, NJ after Arent purchased his lands in New Jersey along with Anthony Brockholst. The two men were both made to retreat from Liesler when he put a price on their heads for there vociferous resistance. They bought land from the Indians (deeded) there in Pompton Valley, NJ. However, when Leisler died, Arent came back to Breucklyn and began selling off parcels of the Pompton land.
Jenneke has been called "Arent's "first love."

Of these children only Casparus and Philippus outlived their Arent.

Eventually in Jan 1703 he married again Swantje Van Dyckhuyse (NY lic lic 12 Dec 1702) d/o Johannes Teunisse Van Dyckhuyse & Aggie Stoothoff (See Arent for further info)
Aren't married thirdly Maria Walters (See Arent)

All Jenneke's children seemed to have loved her very much as well as their grandmother Maria Teller. More later
