Karen Elizabeth (Erickson) Potts

POTTS, Karen Elizabeth, (Erickson) age 61, of Kettering passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012. She was a graduate of Maine South High School in Park Ridge, IL in 1968, earned her BS in Mathematics from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL in 1972, and completed her MEd and other post-graduate work in Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL from 1972-1980. She taught at University Laboratory High School in Urbana-Champaign while attending graduate school and later at West Carrollton Junior High School in West Carrollton, OH. At Augustana, she was a member of the sorority, Kappa Tau. Karen volunteered in the Kettering City School District as she was able, particularly while her two sons were going to school there, and was also very involved in her church, Christ United Methodist, where she worked in the Community Care Ministry, the Children's Ministry, and the United Methodist Women among other groups. Besides teaching and volunteering, Karen loved reading cozy mysteries (especially about cats!) and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Emily. She is survived by her husband, Robert Daniel (Dan), sons, Erik Daniel and Marc David, brother, Keith, and several brothers- in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday March 20, 2012 at 11:30am at David's Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Road, Kettering, OH 45429, and will be officiated by Dr. Judith Hadley. A visitation will be held the same day, from 9:00am-11:00am, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering, OH 45429.
