Killed In Action During The Liberation of Belgium.

Corporal Jack R. Chambers was killed on Sept. 13 1944 near the Albert canal in the town of Hasselt, Belgium. He was attached to the 67th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armoured Division Recon unit. On a patrol near the canel his Captain Harold D. Smith was killed first then Corporal Chambers as well as Pvt Clyde W. Madison who came to aid Corporal Chambers. A memorial honoring them stands in the town square of Hasselt as well as a separate memorial honoring the three near the site where they were killed by enemy fire.
