John Wesley White was born in Kentucky but moved with his family to Sangamon Co., IL when he was four and lived there until he was grown. He married Nancy Ann George and they moved to Bates Co., Missouri. They were parents of nine children, seven of whom grew to maturity. John Wesley went to El Dorado, Arkansas to stay with a relative, thinking the warmer climate might help his chronic illness. However, he died Aug. 5, 1878. Community members and family made his coffin and he was buried in a winding sheet, at his request. He was the son of Martin White and Keturah Ann Fletcher White.
