Arthur Eugene Gentzler, 87, of Springettsbury Township, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday at York Lutheran Retirement Village at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of the late Helen (Bechtel) Gentzler.

The service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, 25 N. Adams St., York. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. The Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Gentzler was born Nov. 20, 1913, in North Codorus Township. He was the son of the late Robert David and Orpha (Bankert) Gentzler.

He co-owned and was president of the former C.M. Parr Inc. in York. He was a 1932 graduate of Spring Grove Area Senior High School, a former member of the York Area Chamber of Commerce, a life member of Reliance Fire Company in West York and a 1934 graduate of Thompson Business School. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in West York, where he served on the Social Ministry Committee, the Church Council and several other committees, was a member of the Senior Citizens and was a Sunday school teacher. He was a former board member of American Association of Retired Persons York Chapter 24 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York; and a member of the Half Century Fellowship of the same church.

Mr. Gentzler is survived by a son, Dr. Robert E. Gentzler of Hilton Head, S.C.; a daughter, Charmaine G. Hoff of Souderton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard D. Gentzler of York and Donald W. Gentzler of Stoverstown; and three sisters, Ethel G. Miller of Hallam, Pauline Slagle of Stoverstown and Flo LaPrairie of York Haven.

Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Walter Carlson, chaplain of York Lutheran Retirement Village at Sprenkle Drive.
