Nadine Kerns Powell Evans, 92, of Stillwater passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008, in her home at Golden Oaks Village. Family will be gathered for visitation from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Strode Funeral Home. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday with funeral services following at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stanley M. Warfield, Jr. officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nadine was born Feb. 1, 1916 in Stillwater to Owen David and Lena May (Montgomery) Kerns. She was raised in Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1934.

After attending Oklahoma A&M;, she married Harold "Wayne" Powell on Nov. 25, 1935, in Kingfisher. After Wayne's death on Jan. 15, 1973, Nadine married Charles Albert Evans on Feb. 19, 1980, at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

During her working years, she was secretary to Murl Rogers at the OSU Alumni Office, worked at the courthouse, and was the bookkeeper for Kerns Construction until her retirement.

She had been a member of Lahoma and cherished her friends at Twentieth Century Club, the Jim Richardson Sunday school class at the Methodist church and her card-playing buddies.

She was a volunteer at the Stillwater Medical Center until a few years ago and helped with dozens of dinners at the church in her younger years.

She loved to travel, garden, play bridge, sew clothes for her grandchildren when they were young, and cook family dinners. No one could fry chicken and okra like Nadine. Her butter horn roll recipe is in numerous cookbooks and recipe boxes.

She was "nana" to dozens of her children's and grandchildren's friends and always had a hug and a smile for everyone. She never met a stranger.

Nadine was predeceased by both husbands, her parents, a brother, Loren G. Kerns and his wife, Mitzi, and a great-grandchild, Kennedy Sherer.

She is survived by her son, Dick Powell and her daughter, Deanna Powell, and their spouses Carol Ann Powell and Gary Corser. Her grandchildren are Shelly Powell Sherer and her husband, Robert, Beth Glass Worley and her husband, Craig, from Stillwater, Malinda Powell Boswell and her husband, Jay, Weslaco, Texas, Jeff Glass and his wife, Lisa, Hurst, Texas, Christian Corser, New York City, Kevin Corser, Chicago, and Kent Corser and his wife Amy, Hoffman Estates, Ill. Her surviving great grandchildren are Ryan, Cole, and Krislyn Sherer, Brendan and Brooke Worley, Jayson, Tracia and Kylie Boswell, Tyler Fioresi, Morgan Glass, and Dylan Corser. She is also survived by a niece, Gwenith Piersall, and nephew, Bob Kerns, both of Stillwater and many great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions can be made in Nadine's name to the First United Methodist Church, 400 W. Seventh, or Judith Karmen Hospice, PO Box 818, Stillwater, 74076.
