Herman “Howard” Adams, 814 formerly of Colonial Terrace Retirement Apartments, died at 4:10 p.m. Friday (July 12, 1996) at the Marietta Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

He was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Wingett Run to John Quincy and Viola. McClead Adams. He was a 1933 graduate of Bloomfield School. He and his wife moved to Marietta in 1940.

He drove a truck for the CCC Highway for 28 years, retiring in August 1970. After retirement, they moved to Seneca Lake, where they lived until 1989 when they moved to Colonial Terrace Apartments in Marietta.

He was a member of the Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ. During his retirement, he and his wife worked at the Robynhaven Youth Camp in Quaker City and volunteered foar the “Meals On Wheels” program in Byesville,

He is survived by one son, John W. Adams and his wife, Suzie; two daughters, Betty L. Wheaton and her husband, Gerald, and Wanda R. Payne and her husband, Billy Sr., all of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Kelly Wheaton Schneider and her husband, Brett. Matthew Adams and his wife, Susan. Corey Adams and his wife, Athy. Tracy Payne and his wife, Donna, Michelle Payne Antil and her husband, Terry Sr., all of Marietta, Gregory Adams and his wife, Tricia, of Logan and Billy Payne Jr. aboard the V8 Enterprise in the Mediterranean Sea: eight great-grandchildren, Joseph and Zane Schneider, Christopher, Ryan and Travis Payne and T.J. and Danielle Antill; one brother-in-law, David Lawrence Dye and his wife, Kay, of Marietta; one sister-in-law, Hildred Adams of Florida: and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary “Alice” Dye, whom he married April 20, 1935. She died May 27, 1992. Also preceding him in death were two infant daughters, Norma Jean and Lucy Mae Adams; five brothers, Albert, James, Clifford, Harry and Brady Adams; and two sisters, Lizzie Adams Hendershot and Mae Adams Schenkel.

Services at Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ with Evangelist Roger Rush officiating. Burial is in East lawn Memorial Park.
