Robert W. "Bob" Anderson, age 87, of Marion, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at his residence.

Bob was born in Waldo, Ohio, on April 6, 1924. He was the son of Paul L. and Dehlia (Groll) Anderson. In 1943, Bob graduated from the Harding High School.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps fighting in World War II in the South Pacific.

On June 24, 1944, Bob was united in marriage to Barbara J. Eager in Garden Grove, California. Bob spent a few years working at Marion Power Shovel before going to work for Ohio Edison where he retired from.

He will fondly be remembered for his love of outdoors sports, including fishing, hunting and golfing. He also delighted in traveling all over the world.

Bob had distinguished accomplishments as a mason. He was a member of the Marion #70 F & AM, March 1949; Marion # 62 F & AM, March 1995; Marion Counsel 22 RNSM Select Master, 1954 and Super Master, 1955; Illustrious Master Marion Chapter, 1973; Worshipful Master, 1967; Marion Shrine; Aladin Shrine Columbus Past Master Unit; Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, April 1955; Most Wise Master Columbus Chapter Rose Criox 1987-1989; Past Master Marion 70; Past President Marion Shrine; Marion Commander Knighted 1954, Eminet Comander 1975, Knights Templar, Knight York Cross of Honor 1975; Royal Order of Scotland; Order of the Eastern Star; White Shrine of Jeruselem; Order of Red Cross of Constantine and 33 Degree Mason, September 25, 1985, Detroit.

Bob is survived by his daughter Susan (Will) Anderson of Rudyard, Montana; Grandsons: Matthew (Kristi) and Robert Watson; Great grandchildren Cyrus, Ella Rose, Austin and Rachel Watson; Siblings: Joan (Sid) Sullivan, Max Anderson and Winifred (Harold) Fout.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara J. Anderson; his second wife Shirley Philips; his parents; and two brothers: Paul and Waldo Anderson.

The Anderson family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, 143 S. Prospect St., Marion. Services honoring his life well lived will also be held at the church on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Rob Howard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Waldo Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Marion Temple Board.
