Cyrus G. Beckwith, once mayor of New London, died yesterday at his home in Waterford. His death was caused by heart desease. Mr. Beckwith was a native of Waterford, born December 3, 1841. He was educated in the district schools of Waterford and at the high school in New London from which he was graduated in 1858. He served several terms as a member of the court of common council in New London, having become a resident of that city when he began a business career. He was a democrat in politics and was a member of the Senate from the old Ninth District in 1886. he was mayor of New London from 1897 to 1900. He was a Mason, an Odd Fellow and a member of the I.O.R.M. He was also a member of Putname Phalanx.
