NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Mattie Clara Reed, 82, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Kingwood Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Corinth Church of Christ with the Rev. Bernard Waites officiating.

Cremation burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery.

Mrs. Reed was born May 23, 1926, in the Buffalo community of Wilkinson County, the daughter of Jimmy S. and Orilla Leake Carter. She was a long-time resident of Natchez where she was an active member of the Natchez Church of Christ. She was a long-time employee of the Natchez Diamond Shop. She loved family and friends and met life's everyday challenges with an exceptional sense of humor and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jimmy Reed and Sammy Reed; and two sisters, Lydia Leona Carter and Mary Elizabeth Matthews.

Survivors include three daughters, Colleen Majors and husband, Gary, both of Tulsa, Okla., Claudia Foster and husband, Kirk, both of Austin, Texas and Jamie Johnson and husband, Carl, both of Cleveland, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, A.D. Carter and Jim Carter, both of Baton Rouge, and Danny Carter of Woodville; four sisters, Elbertine Wesberry of Woodville, Orilla Lea Butler of Oklahoma City, Okla., Arilla Bea Weeks of Romance, Ark., and Malva Weaver of Pensacola, Fla.
