Edward Lewis Bale, son of Rev. John S. Bale and Dimmey Lewis was born in Green County, Kentucky. He was a plantation owner in Kentucky before moving with his wife Synthia C. A. McDonald Bale and their four children (Milton T. Bale, Katie B. Bale Knighton, Mattie M. Bale, and Josh L. Bale)following the Civil War. They traveled with a wagon train of other families from Kentucky arriving in Texas after three months of travel. After counting the loses they had incurred following this war, they determined to begin again in Texas. They found Farmersville to be their choice to begin this new life. He quickly purchased land and built a home for his family He continued to farm the land until his death. At one time he had a store in this community as well. Farmersville has been "home" for members of this family for several generations for over 100 years. He was buried in Twin Cemeteries in Farmersville following his death August 24, 1884. His head and foot tombstones are located in line with a house located near the cemetery. He also has a tombstone in Farmersville IOOF Cementery along with his wife and three of their four children and their families.
