Billy Hughes, 70, lifetime resident of Pierce Junction and Almeda, passed away at his home on May 21, 1999. Billy's work history included Carl Anderson's appliance store and the Almeda Post office. He had hoped to become postmaster, but the office was moved inside the city limits and became the Almeda Branch. Billy then worked at the downtown office until 2:30 a.m. Tough on a guy who couldn't drive because of a disability. He took a pay cut to work close to home as a drill press operator, a job he loved and gained a reputation for doing good work. In 1994, he retired from E R S I.

A member of Almeda U. Methodist, Billy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sue Harrison Hughes; daughter, Janice; son, Chuck; five grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin "Whitey" Hughes.
