Obituary from "Ottumwa Courier," of December 8, 1905:

Mrs. Amanda Rickett died Sunday morning at the residence of G.H. Purdy on North Spring street, after several weeks' illness. Mrs. Rickett was 76 years of age and the widow of Wm. H. Rickett, who died about eighteen months ago. The funeral services were held yesterday morning, conducted by Rev. H.N. Smith, and interment was made in the McCormick cemetery at Highland Center.

Mrs. Amanda Rickett, widow of the late William Rickett, died Sunday morning, after two weeks' illness, at the age of 76 years.

The funeral was held yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. G.H. Purdy, conducted by Rev. H.N. Smith presiding elder of the Methodist Church. The remains were interred in the McCormick Cemetery, south of Highland Center.

Mrs. Rickett was born October 25, 1827 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. She came to Iowa with her father in 1845 and located in Wapello County, living there and in Hedrick ever since. She was married to William H. Rickett July 23, 1854. Mr. Rickett died May 6, 1903. Six children were born to them, four of whom are living: Lincoln C., Albert D., Mrs. Rachel Daly, and Mrs. Ida Purdy. William J. died March 27, 1890 and Etta J. January 5, 1895.

Mrs. Rickett was one of the old settlers of this part of Iowa and she had many friends. Her death is mourned by all.
