Anthony "Tony" P. Rodriguez
Resident of Burlingame

Passed away March 13, 2012 at his home after several years of failing health. Born in San Francisco, on May 3, 1927, to Pedro Rodriguez and Carmen Moreno Rodriguez, Tony was a life-long resident of his native city, with the exception of the two years of service he spent in the US Army with the Occupying Forces in Korea after WW II, until his move to Burlingame in 2006.

Tony grew up in the Mission District and graduated from Mission High School ('45). From the mid-50s until the early 70s he was a resident of the Outer Sunset District (Holy Name Parish) and, from the early 70s until his move to Burlingame, a resident of the Lakeshore District (St. Stephen's Parish), where he was a frequent volunteer at both churches.

Few people knew San Francisco better than Tony, a knowledge he began to acquire at the age of five when he got his first job selling newspapers on the city's streets and, later, while driving a delivery truck for Christopher Dairy; then as a policeman in the SFPD and, finally, as a firefighter in the SFFD, where he worked at headquarters, and from which he retired, with the rank of captain, in 1985.

Always keenly interested in San Francisco politics, Tony remained active in the civic life of the City while serving as police commissioner during the administration of Mayor Frank Jordan. Never one to be idle, Tony remained active far into retirement, working around the house, doing volunteer work, travelling extensively, and getting together with friends, particularly if there was a chance that someone might produce a pack of cards a game at which he demonstrated considerable skill.

Tony is survived by his loving wife, with whom he recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary; son, brother, sister and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and by his sister Carmen; and brothers Mike, Fred, Pete, Al, Joe and George.
