Blanche Harris Cole

Blanche Harris Cole, age 92, died February 25, 2012 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Jackson, TN.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Stonewall Jackson and Maggie Buntin Harris; her maternal grandparents, Hazel Hewitt and Sue Cole Pegues; her parents, Joel Fred and Leona Pegues Harris; her husband of 58 years, Colonel William Burton Cole.

A lifelong resident of the Huntersville Community, Mrs. Cole graduated at the former Huntersville High School in 1938 where she was a member of the women's basketball team and later coached the elementary school team. After her marriage to Mr. Cole, the couple traveled across the country with the U.S. military, after which she returned to live with her parents when Col. Cole was deployed overseas in World War II. After the war, they built their home on the Brownsville Highway where they remained the rest of their lives.

She was employed for several years at the former First National Bank in downtown Jackson, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Andrews Chapel Methodist Church; the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. An unsurpassed bread maker, she was known among friends and family for giving away her homemade loaves.

She is survived by two sons, William Burton Cole, Jr. (Jennifer), an attorney of Lake Tahoe, NV and Stephen Randolph Cole, with the U.S. Postal Service in Jackson; two grandchildren, Cristina Michelle Cole of Lake Tahoe, NV and Todd Marlon Cole of Jackson, TN; two great grandchildren, Todd Marlon Cole, Jr. and Shawn Robert Cole of Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Fred Hewitt and Laura Harris of Nashville, TN.

Graveside service 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Andrews Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gary Drum officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. til 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
