Dr. Edward "Lee" Dubowsky, 84, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Thursday evening, March 15, 2012 at his home in Winfield.

Born January 26, 1928, in St. Joseph, Missouri, he was the son of Edward Lee and Vella (Baker) Dubowsky. He was raised and received his education in St. Joseph, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1946. He then attended St. Joseph Junior College and received his Bachelors of Science in Education from Northwest Missouri State University. Lee went on to obtain his Master of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1954 and his Doctorate of Education from Oklahoma State University.

Lee began his teaching career as a math teacher at Colby High School, and was later an assistant professor at Wichita State University. In 1961 he accepted a position as Professor of Mathematics at Southwestern College in Winfield.

Lee was united in marriage to Juanita Waddell on June 15, 1964 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Wichita. The couple made their home in Winfield where Lee continued at Southwestern College for over 33 years until retiring in 1994.

He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield and a volunteer at Winfield Food Pantry. He was also an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America for over 39 years and was a Cub Master for 10 years. While in the Boy Scout organization Lee received several awards, including: Distinguished Service Award; Sliver Beaver Award; and the First Citizens Award presented by First National Bank. He also served as the Assistant District Commissioner for the Southwind District, and the Boy Scout Commissioner for the greater Oschegonda District.

His family includes: His wife: Juanita Dubowsky of the home; His son: David Dubowsky and wife, Melissa of Kearney, NE; His daughter: Sondra Dubowsky of Waco, TX; and His grandchildren: Megan and Andrew Dubowsky of Kearney, NE.

In addition to his parents Lee was preceded in death by his sister Ruthellen Johnson and his brother-in-law Bill Johnson.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Memorials has been established in Dr. Dubowsky's name for Grace United Methodist Church, Harry Hynes Hospice and for the Boy Scouts of America Southwind District. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
