Per his death certificate found on Ancestry.com: he was a son of Charles Bollin and Emily Passailaigue. He was married at the time of his death but his spouse's name is not given. His occupation is listed at insurance at Bollin and Price. He died at 2328 Taylor St., Columbia, SC of angina pectoris due to heart failure. The informant was Minnie Bollin Hammond.

Found in The State 04 January 1919: John Hodge Bollin died suddenly yesterday morning at 5:20 o'clock at his home, 2328 Taylor street. The cause of death was angina pectoris. He had his first attack last Monday but it was not severe, and he was able to be out and about business New Year's day. Thursday he spent in and about his home and in the evening said that he felt much better. He had received medical treatment and his physician knew that he was in a serious condition, but it was hoped that he would recover from this attack. Mr. Bollin retired early Thursday evening and slept peacefully and well the early part of the night, but had a sharp attack of severe pain at about 4 o'clock a. m. His physician, Dr. Robert W. Gibbes, was summoned and the members of his family in the city. He was conscious until about 5:20 o'clock yesterday morning when death came suddenly and he died most peacefully. John Hodge Bollin was born in Columbia, November 16, 1850. He was the son of Charles A. Bollin and his wife, whose maiden name was Miss Emily Passailaigue, of Charleston. His father was for a number of years the agent of the old South Carolina Railway, now a part of the Southern system, in this city. For about 20 years John H. Bollin held a position in the freight office of the South Carolina Railway in this city. He resigned this position to engage in the real estate and insurance business. This business was recently reorganized under the name of Bollin & Pope, incorporated, of which Mr. Bollin was the president. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Lillian Wright, one daughter, Mrs. H. B. Hammond, two sons, A. W. Bollin of Charleston, and Lieut. John H. Bollin, Jr., now in France, three sisters, Mrs. W. J. McGrath of Charleston, Mrs. Lily B. McGregor and Miss Agnes Bollin of this city.
