Alice Tacie (McCormick) Logan
Alice Tacie McCormick Logan

Age 100, joined the Church Triumphant on March 10, 2012 after a long life of manifold blessings.

She was the youngest child of Tacie Jane Harkness and Harry McCormick of Newark. She felt that she had lived in the "best of times" having gone from "horse and buggy" days to seeing a man on the moon.

Life as she grew up centered around activities at the school and Ott's Chapel. After graduation from Newark High School in 1929 and University of Delaware (known then as "the Women's College of Delaware") in 1933, she taught three years in a one-room school (Welsh Tract), followed by five years at Stanton Elementary.

In 1938 she married John Logan in the Dover Methodist Church. After her children where in school, she taught in Newark schools for twenty two years. She was Delaware teacher of the year in 1972 and was always appreciative of that honor.

During her retirement years, Alice remained active in her church, YWCA, Newark New Century Club, and sewing and bridge clubs. Most of all she enjoyed her family. She liked cooking, sewing and reading.

She is survived by her daughters, Kay Brodie (Herb) of Chestertown, MD and Carol Yust (Ed) of Ocean City, NJ; four granddaughters, Mindie Paquette (Bobby) of Boca Raton, FL, Wendy Monteleone (Jim) of Marmora, NJ, Amy Scout (Justin) of Yamhill, OR and Laura Deschere (Peter) of Newark, DE; nine great-grandchildren, Grace and Gianna Paquette, Logan and Jordan Monteleone, Ronan, Liam and Colin Scout and Layla and Samantha Deschere; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, four siblings and her husband of sixty eight years.

She leaves behind many pleasant memories to her host of friends and her loving family.

Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 16, at Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be at 2:30 at White Clay Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Newark United Methodist Church c/o R.T. Foard and Jones funeral home.
