LOUIS L. NAGL

Mass of the Christian burial for Louis L. Nagl of Carroll will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll.

Mr. Nagl, 79, former manager of the Carroll Country Club and former owner/operator of the historic Burke Inn in Carroll, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness.

The Rev. James McCormick will officiate the Mass. Gift bearers will be Mr. Nagl's grandsons. Lectors will be Sister Mary Lourdes and Omer Langenfeld.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Hackett, Jeff Nagl, Peter Collison, Robert Killian, Chris Corsbie and Chris Bazzocco.

Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Friends called and a rosary was recited this afternoon at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Carroll Public Library or the American Cancer Society.

He was born July 9, 1918, at Dedham, a son of John M. and Margaret (Schultes) Nagl. When Mr. Nagl was young his father died, and his mother was married to Dr. C.A. Langenfeld, a veterinarian, and the family moved to Carroll.

He graduated from Carroll High School in 1935 and attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake on a football scholarship. It was there he met Gertrude M. Davis, and they were married July 15, 1940, at the St. Peter and Paul Church rectory in Carroll.

The Nagls settled in Carroll. Mr. Nagl purchased and managed real estate here and owned a farm near Coon Rapids.

As a young man, he managed a number of fraternal organizations in Carroll, such as the Elks and Am-Vets. Mr. Nagl was manager of the Carroll Country Club in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He owned and operated the historic Burke Hotel at the corner of U.S. 30 and Main Street in Carroll during the 1960's. After selling the hotel he operated Louie's Lounge, a nightclub on U.S. 30.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, of Carroll; three daughters; Mary Collison of Carroll, Elaine Corsbie of Des Moines and Susan Nagl of Barnstable, Mass.; two sons, David Nagl of Cedar Falls and Richard Nagl of Colorado Springs, Colo; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Westendorf, of Carroll; a brother, Albert Nagl, of Carroll; and three stepbrothers: Felix Langenfeld and Omer Langenfeld, both of Carroll, and Vincent Langenfeld of Omaha, Neb.; a stepsister, Lorene Langenfeld (Sister Mary Lourdes) of Chicago, Ill.; and a half-sister, Helen Meyer, of Clear Lake.

Mr. Nagl was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Helen; and a son-in-law, Paul Collison.
