Mary was born Brookhaven, Texas, to the late John Hollis and Thelma O'Neal Hall. For a time the family lived in New Mexico, but they returned to Brookhaven when Mary was 13, and she attended Killeen High School, graduating in 1942. On March 13, 1945, Mary and J.L. Williams were married in San Diego, California. A native of Killeen, J.L. was serving in the United States Marine Corps, and upon his return from the South Pacific, he and Mary moved to Huntsville, where J.L. completed his education degree at Sam Houston State Teachers College. In 1949, they moved to Copperas Cove where J.L. began his teaching career and Mary attended Hardin Baylor College, graduating in 1955. Later they obtained their Masters Degrees in Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Mary served as a teacher and administrator for the Copperas Cove Independent School District until her retirement in 1990, ending her distinguished career.

J.L. Williams died in 1973 and in March of 1979, Mary married William H. "Bill" Kasting of McGregor and they lived in McGregor until Bill's death in August of 2005. Her two marriages were exceedingly happy, and for that Mary felt richly blessed.

Preceding her in death were brothers, William and Tom Hall.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Williams Peters; grandchildren, John Peters and Meredith Guthrie; great-grandchildren, Alaina and Rhys Guthrie; brothers, Hollis and John Hall; sister, Charmaine Ewest; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Y8
