Marie M. (Chiasson) Griffin, R.N., age 81, of Braintree, formerly of Newport, RI and Whitman, died peacefully, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the William B. Rice Eventide Home in Quincy, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born and raised in Cambridge. She was a graduate of the Carney Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1952. Marie was a Registered Nurse and was dedicated to her profession. She was involved with patient care within various healthcare organizations including, Carney Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Visiting Nurse Association of Cambridge as well as long term care facilities in Newport, RI and Bostons South Shore. For twenty-five years, Marie raised her family in Braintree. She was an active parishioner of Saint Thomas More Parish and was a past prefect of the Saint Thomas More Chapter of the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was also active in the community and at Archbishop Williams High School where her four children graduated. Marie then resided in Newport, RI and later with family in Whitman. A devoted mother and grandmother, Rie Ries unconditional love, sense of humor and delight in giving, brought joy to all who knew her. Devoted mother of Erin M. Connolly and her husband Joseph of Whitman, Cheryl L. Anness and her husband Marlin of Midway, KY, Thomas J. Griffin and his wife Karen of Round Hill, VA and Dawn E. Griffin of Boston. Loving grandmother of Kristen and Jacqueline Connolly, Russell, Geoffrey and Erin Hollis, Thomas and Benjamin Griffin. Twin sister of Joseph Chiasson of Cambridge and sister Cecile Berry of Milton and Paul Chiasson of Somersworth, NH. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Monday, March 19 at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint Thomas More Church, corner of Hawthorn Road and Elm Street, Braintree at 10 oclock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 2 | 5 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maries memory may be made to the William B. Rice Eventide Home, 215 Adams Street, Quincy, MA 02169 to be directed to a fund for nursing education. You are invited to visit or call 617-472-6344.
