OBITUARY:

Son of Warren and Margaret Smith Lilley, was born in Chester County, PA., Aug. 11, 1822 and departed this life Dec. 11, 1906, age 84 years and 4 months. He had been in very poor health for several years, but his last sickness was of about three months duration. His death was caused by organic heart trouble. In early boyhood he was apprenticed to learn the milling trade on the banks of the historic Brandywine, a few miles from the scene of the defeat of Washington's army. He moved to Ohio with his parents in 1839 and married Amelia Jane Glenn of Clermont County, Ohio, July 20, 1848. To this union twelve children were born, two of whom died while quite small, His wife died Oct. 9, 1893 and the home was broken up. Since that time he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Sinift, who has been very kind and devoted to him in his declining years. He was a citizen of Kenton, Ohio from 1857 to 1883 when he moved to Union County, Ohio, near Arela, where he spent the last twenty-four years. Father Lilley was a member of the Presbyterian church, having united with this church when seventeen years of age under the pastor of his uncle, Rev. John A. Colwell Grier, D.D. He leaves to mourn his departure ten children, namely: Mary Thompson of Lynchburg, Ohio, Margaret L. McQuown of Wheeling, W. Va., Mattie J. Dickson, Nagle Hays Lilley, Eleanor B. Rogers and Della M. Kelly of Kenton, Ohio, John Harvey, Jennie G. Sinift, Colwell Grier and J. W. Lilley of Arbela. There were fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Sinift,, by Rev. B. F. McKinnon. The singing was conducted by the Grace Chapel Choir. The body was taken to Kenton for interment, where a short service was conducted at the cemetery by Rev. Pinkerton, pastor of the Christian Church of that city.

[It is not certain if Warren Lilley was John Lilley's father. John's possible fathers are a Samuel Lilley or Walter Lilley.]
