Stewart Melvard Benjamin Stewart, 92, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Garden of Meditation. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity. "Red" was born on November 11, 1917, to Wofford Levi and Myrtle (Prater) Stewart. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked as a factory technician for Colgate Palmolive Co. before retiring. He enjoyed spending his pastime in woodworking and carpentry. Melvard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Alvena (Deckman) Stewart, and one brother, Willard Stewart. Survivors include his daughter Diana Bailey of Kansas City, MO., along with several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
