Brother Charles J. Bisenius, C.S.P.X., 81, of 101 Second Ave. SW, Cascade, died Wednesday morning, March 14, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with Monsignor John McClean officiating. Homilist will be the Rev. Xavier Deitiker, O.C.S.O. Concelebrating will be the Rev. Richard Kuhn and the Rev. Douglas Loecke, and several clergy from the Dubuque and La Crosse, Wis., diocesans. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, where military rites will be accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today, at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Friends also may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

He was born on March 19, 1930, in Dubuque, son of Raymond and Sarah Jane (Lane) Bisenius. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Martin's High School in Cascade.

Charles served in the Navy, after which time he attended Loras College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in education. He then went on to graduate with a master's degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Colorado.

In September 1952, Charles joined the Congregation of St. Pius X with the Diocese of LaCrosse. On June 12, 1954, he professed with the Brothers of St. Pius X. He later held the position of Brother Director. He served as a teacher at St. Lucas, Iowa, and Thorp Catholic School in Thorp, Wis. He then taught at the high school level at Regis in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Notre Dame in Niles, Ill., and St. Joseph's in Westchester, Ill. He had a great gift for teaching and mentoring his students.

Charles was a very talented individual, especially in artwork and crafts. He had a knack for interior decorating; he had a special eye for antiques, intricately designed pieces and stained-glass windows. He delighted in visiting with people. His outgoing, joyous, Irish personality endeared him to all people.

Surviving are many cousins and friends, and his confrere, Brother Michael Mandernach, of Spring Valley, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, the Rev. Thomas Bisenius; and a sister, Sr. Eleanor Ann Bisenius BVM.
