Walter R. Fuller, 51, active in chambers of commerce

ST. PETERSBURG - Walter R. Fuller, 51, a longtime Florida Power Corp. employee who was active in chambers of commerce in beach cities, died Thursday (Feb. 23, 1989) at Lakeland Regional Memorial Hospital.
For the past eight years, Mr. Fuller was manager of the Gulf Beaches District of Florida Power. He worked for the giant utility 28 years, beginning as a clerk in the 1960s.
In 1973 he was named supervisor of customer service at the company's telephone center on 25th Street N, overseeing a staff that handled calls from three districts and 175,000 customers, his wife, Nancy Jo, said Friday.
While working for Florida Power, Mr. Fuller joined chambers of commerce at St. Petersburg Beach and Treasure Island and presided over the St. Petersburg Beach chamber in 1985-86.
He was a past president and board member of the Gulf Beaches Rotary Club International and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.
Last year he was named chairman for the United Negro College Fund drive.
He was a member of Central Christian Church and an Army veteran.
Mr. Fuller, who lived at 6158 Bayou Grande Blvd. NE, St. Petersburg, was born in Bartow. He moved here from Lakeland, where his late father, Dr. Henry Fuller Sr., was a founder of the Watson Clinic.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Nancy Jo; a daughter, Dee Fuller, Tampa; a son, Wally, St. Petersburg; his mother, Edith Fuller, Lakeland; his brother, Dr. Henry Fuller Jr., West Palm Beach; and a sister, Marie Wilson, Auburn, Ala.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lakeland.
The family suggested memorial contributions to the Central Christian Church building fund or the Research Foundation of Watson Clinic.
