Raymond Ott was born in Wausau, Wisconsin on October 9, 1918, the son of Paul Emil and Viola (Gernetzky) Ott. He served in the U.S. Army, 75th Infantry Division during WWII and was at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star for his war service. After the war, Mr. Ott was an original member and played an important role in the formation of Wausau's National Guard unit, Company F 426 Infantry Regiment. He was active in the Guard when the 32nd Division was activated for the Berlin Crisis from 1961 to 1962. He remained in the Guard until 1963, serving a total of 22 years of military service.
Returning home after the war, Mr. Ott worked delivering milk. He also served as town of Stettin supervisor and chairman, and was a member of the Marathon County Board of Supervisors. Mr. Ott was elected Marathon County Clerk in 1964 and served ten consecutive terms, retiring in 1985. He was instrumental in starting the county on its first automated system. In total, Mr. Ott gave more than 50 years of service to the state and the nation., and in 1998 received the Wisconsin Meritorious Service Medal.
At Portsmouth, New Hampshire on July 11, 1942, Raymond Ott was married to Rosemary Gendron. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Mr. Ott was a volunteer at Marathon County Health Care Center, ombudsman for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR), the Marathon County Agricultural Society, Wausau-Marathon County Parks Commission, Marathon-Portage County Airport Commission, and Centurions at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was an active member of the Golden K, 40 and 9 Voiture Locale No. 139, American Legion Montgomery-Plant Post 10, VFW Burns Post 388, and the 32nd and the 75th Division Veterans Associations.
Raymond Ott died on December 6, 2006. He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, WI.
