He was born on Sept. 30, 1923, to Anthony Lucking and Barbara Reinardy on a farm in the New Trier parish.
Fr. Lucking was predeceased by his twin brother, Arnold, on Sept. 30, 2001, in Pismo Beach, Calif.
Surviving are his sister, Linda Terry of San Francisco, and his brother, Martin Lucking of Kenyon, Minn.
Rev. Lucking attended St. Mary's School in New Trier and then studied at the Crosier Seminary in Onamia, Minn. He was ordained at the Crosier House in Hastings, Neb., on Nov. 3, 1950. Fr. Lucking celebrated his First Mass at St. Mary's Church in New Trier in June 1950.
Rev. Lucking celebrated his golden anniversary at St. Mary's Church in New Trier in June 2000.
Fr. Lucking retired to the Archdiocese of San Bernardino in California and continued to serve as visiting priest, when needed, in various neighboring churches while living in the "High Desert" of Morongo Valley.
His Solemn Funeral Mass was Sept. 30, his 86th birthday, at St. Mary's of the Valley Church in Yucca Valley. Father Lucking was a fourth degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, who served as pallbearers at his funeral. Rev. Lucking was interred at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in San Bernardino.
Our dear brother is gone from this earth and will be sadly missed by his sister and brother among many others.
