Gus Williams Kahler, 87 former resident of the Bartlesville community, died at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the home of his daughter. Mrs. William S. (Glady's) Mahoney. Auburn, Wash., following several weeks of critical illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Kahler will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Memory Chapel of the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence. The Rev. O. Dale Pendergrass and Rev. Donald Henderson, will be the officiates. Interment will be directed beside the grave of Mrs. Kahler in the Dewey Cemetery by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.
His casket escorts will include his grandsons, Howard W. Kahler Jr., Kenneth W. Kahler, Terry L Kahler, Jon M. Kahler, Warren Ray (Bud) Mahoney, Augusta William (Rocky) Boyer. His honorary casket escorts will include, Phillip G. Love, Harold C. Love, Jack L. Love, Harold C Pendergrass. David Arthur Kahler, James A Boyer, Kenneth D. Mitchell, Billy Lee Kimzey and Bryant Kimzey.
A native of ‘Missouri'. Mr. Kahler was born in Tripplett, on Sept. 21, 1889, and he was reared in Brunswick, MO. He and the former Miss Arlene Elizabeth Payne were married on May 18, 1909, in Brunswick, where they made their first home and remained residents for ten years. The Kahlers were active in farming before they came to Bartlesville in 1919, when he became active in the oil tank building business being employed with Black, Sivallis, and Bryson Company, here.
The following year in 1920, Mr. Kahler was employed with the Pure Oil Company as an oilfield pumper in area oilfield boom days in Osage County west of Bartlesville. In 1933 Mr. Kahler again returned to farming in Osage County on the Red Eagle Route, and he was retired from the Pure Oil Company. Mr. and Mrs. Kahler moved in 1942 to Hood River, Ore. And were apart of the fruit growing industry in Oregon for two years, returning to Bartlesville in 1944 to be near their children for a year and a half before they made their permanent home in the Hood River fruit growing area in 1948. Mrs. Kahler preceded him in death on Sept 19, 1958, and he continued his residence at Hood River, following her death, until June, 1976, when he moved to the Auburn, Wash., community to be in the home of his daughter due to illness. Mr. Kahler will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of the Arnold Moore Funeral Residence until the service hour on Monday.
Survivors include, in addition to his daughter, Mrs. Mahoney in Auburn, Wash: Two other Daughters, Mrs. Catherine Pendergrass, Kent, Washington, and Mrs. Homer (Berna) Love, Hermiston, Ore; Four sons, Howard W Kahler, 1025 South Keeler, Bartlesville, Kan., Marvin V. (Tiny) Kahler, 1101 South Keeler, and John W Kahler, Hood River, Ore: two sisters, Mrs. Josie Masters, Brunswick, Mo., and Mrs. Jess (Eugenia) Turner, Sugar Creek, Mo; four brothers, Wallace M. Kahler, Lawrence Bernard "Ben" Kahler, and Walter "Walt" Kahler, all of Brunswick, Mo., and Robert M. Kahler, Hood River, Ore., 30 Grandchildren, 55 – Great-grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Two children have preceded him in death.
Final rites and interment will be directed by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.
