Binghamton: Thaddeus J. Okoniewski, 97, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the James G. Johnston Nursing Home, Johnson City. Ted was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Gazella, in 2009; his parents, John and Victoria; and five brothers and two sisters. Ted is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Frank) Sollitto, Johnson City; a son and daughter-in-law, Ted (Marlene) Okoniewski, Binghamton; three grandchildren, Alissa and Andrea Sollitto, Endicott, Todd Okoniewski, Endwell. Ted was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity. As a boy, Ted worked in the family business, the Glenwood Bakery, greasing pans and decorating wedding cakes. He graduated from Binghamton High School and Syracuse University. Ted opened his accounting and insurance practice on Glenwood Ave. in 1950. He was a well-respected business man and upon his retirement, Ted and Gazella traveled to Europe, Japan, and Hong Kong, and spent many winters in Florida. Ted enjoyed fishing trips to Malone with his brother Paul, as well as hunting and mushroom picking. A special thanks to the staff of Unit 2, James G. Johnston Nursing Home, especially Margaret, Harry, Keith and Sarah. Special thanks to Father Matthew Wieczorek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 346 Prospect St., Binghamton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ted's name to CHOW, 3 Otsinengo St., Binghamton, NY 13903.
