Mrs. Featherston Osler Passed Away Yesterday.

Mother of Three Eminent Canadians, and Beloved Figure Had Passed Century Mark -- Celebrated Birthday Last December -- Funeral To-morrow.

Mrs. Ellen P. Osler, widow of the late Rev. Featherston Osler, and mother of a family which claims three eminent Canadians, died at her home, 83 Wellesley street, yesterday afternoon in her 101st year. About a week ago Mrs. Osler began to show evidences of that rapid decline which advanced age cannot hope to retard and at 1:30 o'clock passed quietly away, with Mr. Edward Osler, a son, Mrs. Gwyn of Dundas, a daughter, and Miss Osler, a niece, at her side.

The death of the late Mrs. Osler removes a widely known and beloved person. On December 14th last she celebrated the centenary of her birthday, and the occasion was one of significance, taking the form of a home gathering of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. About sixty-five people were present at the historical reunion, and they represented distant parts of Canada, England and the United States. At that time Mrs. Osler's faculties were unimpaired, and her health and strength a subject of remark. She had lived in the reign of five Sovreigns, and the chief feature of the celebration was a handsome five-story birthday cake emblematic of the reigns of George III, George IV., William IV., Victoria and Edward VII.

Mrs. Osler was born in Cornwall, Eng. In 1837, the year of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne, she came to Canada with her husband, Rev. Featherton L. Osler. They settled at Bond Head, Ont., where they experienced the trials of pioneer life. Mrs. Osler, with a true spirit, devoted her efforts toward helping her husband in his mission work. In 1857 Rev. Mr. Osler and his wife removed to the Dundas and Ancaster parish, where they remained nineteen years. Then Mr. Osler retired from the active ministry, and he and his wife came to Toronto to reside. He died in 1895. There are six children of the union living, three of whom have attained a prominent place in the public eye -- Mr. Justice Featherston Osler of the Court of Appeal, Ontario; Mr. E. B. Osler, M. P., and Dr. William Osler, regius professor of medicine in Oxford University, England. The other surviving children are: Mr. E. L. P. Osler, barrister, residing in the North-west; Mr. Francis L. of Summerland, B.C., and Mrs. Gwyn, wife of Lieut.-Col. Gwyn of Dundas. A noted son was the late Mr. B. B. Osler, a leader at the Bar in Canada.

The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from St. Luke's Church to St. James' Cemetery.
