He was from Galloway, Scotland & died in S. C. His brother Alexander Shaw erected this tomb at St. Helena Parrish Church in Beaufort, S. C. (not known if body in it or not), the engraving saying that death at age 36. A metal Rev. War memorial marker is by the tomb. We think he had two sisters: (1) Ann Shaw who married a William Gray in 1748 in Orangeburg, S. C. and then a Mr. Atkins and (2) Martha Shaw who married John Newman.

By The Request of Alexander Shaw This Tomb was erected to perpetuate the memory of his brother Capt. Anthony Shaw a native of Galloway in Scotland He departed this life in 4th day Sept 1798 age 36
