Funeral Services for Pioneer Illinois Woman to Be Held Friday

Oquawka. Ill., Dec. 30.— Lizzie Arthur Akin was a daughter of Samuel and Orpha Calahan Arthur and was born in Bedford county, Pa, on June 7. 1851, and passed away at her home here in Oquawka Dec. 28 at 11:40 p. m. In the year 1860 the Arthur family moved to Warren county, Ill., where they have since made their home.
On August 3, 1871 she was married to James Marshall Akin and after about two years' residence in Olena,. and Biggsville, they moved to Oquawka, where she has since resided, her husband preceding her in death several years ago. Four children were born to this union, two dying in infancy and two sons survive her. 0. H. Akin of Kirkwood and J. Logue Akin of Oquawka; one granddaughter Mrs. Thelma Akin Mann and two great grandchildren, Brent and Patricha Ann Mann all of Rock Island.
She is also survived by three brothers, William Arthur of Monmouth, Robert of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Richard of Kansas, also by several nieces and nephews. Early in life Mrs. Akin united with the United Presbyterian church, later affiliating with the Presbyterian church of which she has been a member ever since. Mrs. Akin was also very active in lodge work, being the first noble grand of the Oquawka Rebekah lodge and having filled the chair a number of times since and always very faithful in attendance; she was also worthy matron of the Oquawka chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, a number of times, and also faithful to attend when health permitted, and as long as the Woman's Relief corps was active here, she was a member and active worker in that.
Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Oquawka. at two o'clock with burial in Oquawka cemetery.
