Iris Gale Bowers, 82 307 Rogers died unexpectedly at her home. Saturday evening. She was born September 17, 1906 in Munden, Kansas, the daughter of W. A. Callahan and Jessie M. Callahan.
She moved to Abilene as a small child and attended the Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1924.
On September 20, 1925 she was united in marriage with Ellis E. Bowers in Salina, Kansas and they had made their home in Abilene since that time. Iris was the head-cook at McKinley grade school for many years before retiring in 1969.
She was a member of the United Brethren in Christ Church, the Womens Missionary Association, the VFW Auxillary and the AARP.
Surviving are her husband Ellis of the home, four sons, Glenn Bowers and Gerald Bowers of Abilene, Robert Bowers, Rhonert Park, Calif. and Jack Bowers, North Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Dorothy Smith, Astoria, Ore. and Marilyn Bowers Garden Grove, Ca; one sister, Ines Dodds Phoenix, Arizona; a sister-in-law Frieda Callahan, Tombstone. Arizona, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at the United Brethren in Christ Church, Wednesday, December 7, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Faber officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cementery.
The family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. The family suggest that friends may contribute to the United Brethren In Christ Church Memorial Fund in her memory. Contributions may be left at the Martin Funeral Home
