"Spurlock Rites Slated Tuesday; Local Relatives
JONESBORO (Special) –
Funeral services for Mrs. J. W. Spurlock, 88, of Downsville, will be held at 3p. m. Tuesday in Mt. Nebo Methodist Church with the Rev. Brady D. Forman, pastor, the Rev. I. A. Patton and the Rev. Artis Smith officiating.
Mrs. Spurlock was the grandmother of J. R. Spurlock, Thad Spurlock, Mrs. Inez McGee, Mrs. Leslie Semmes, Mrs. Jack Ponder, Mrs. E. L. St. John and Mrs. Bert Hill, all of Monroe.
Burial will be at Mt. Nebo Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Mrs. Spurlock died Sunday night in Jackson Parish Hospital here following an illness of several months.
Other survivors are three sons, Fred J. Spurlock, Houston, Tex., Guy R. Spurlock, Galiano, and Samuel Victor Spurlock, Tyler, Tex.; four daughters, Mrs. R.W. Bryan, Jonesboro; Mrs. B.L. Messer, Zachary, Mrs. Elzy Roberson of Downsville, and Mrs. Miller B. Roye, Stockton, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. T. A. Miles, Kilgore, Tex, a brother, R. F. Jones, El Reno, Okla., 22 other grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren.
The body is presently at Southern Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Officiating will be the Rev. Brady Forman and the Rev. I. A. Patton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body will lie in state until 2 p.m. Tuesday."
