Henry Fergeson (86760982)

Suggested edit: S.J. Fergeson, C.R. Fergeson, and H.E. Fergeson, were owners of Fergeson Brothers Drug Store since 1911. The men came to Texas from Marshall County, Tennessee in 1881 with their widowed mother, Mrs. Sarah C. Fergeson, and four other brothers and two sisters. When the family came to Texas, they stopped in Collin County where they lived until coming to this section of Texas in 1886 at which time, their mother filed on 672 acres of school land in the Foard City Community. Mr. Fergeson worked on the home farm until 1894. He began work as a cowboy on the Witherspoon ranch. After working 5-1/2 years on the ranch without losing a day, he decided to take a vacation for two weeks. He returned to the ranch and completed 10 years of work there. When his cowboy career ended, Mr. Fergeson came to Crowell where he was employed for one year by Crowell Hardware and Grocery Company. From there, he went to the hardware and grocery department of Edwards, Self & Company where he remained three years. In 1911, he and his brothers entered the drug business with B.F. Allison. In June 1911, he married Miss Effie Harrison. The building which housed the drug store was built in 1908 and was the first brick building in Crowell, Texas.
