Services for Cecil Elias Addy will be held today, at 10 a.m., at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with Revs. Johnny Mullinax, Tod Thompson, and Lin Chesney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Milling Funeral Home of Union in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Addy, 88, of Decatur, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Addy was born on Aug. 4, 1922, in Newton County to Ervin and Emma Addy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from Feb. 25, 1943 - Nov. 4, 1945. While in the service he participated in campaigns in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. After returning home to Newton County, Mr. Addy began to farm and raise dairy cows. He was a true steward of the earth and loved working with his hands. Mr. Addy's greatest loves were God and his family. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County and enjoyed hunting with his beagles, watching sports, and gardening.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Lola Keen Addy of Decatur; son, Mike Addy and wife, Debbie of Decatur; daughter, Debbie Boggan and husband, Charles of Decatur; grandchildren: Jeff Addy (Lisa) of Decatur, Jake Addy (Stacy) of Decatur, Natalie May (Caleb) of Philadelphia, Emily Thompson (Hal) of Decatur, Matthew Boggan, Celia Boggan and Cody Addy, all of Decatur; great-grandchildren: Jacob Addy, Josh Addy, Lauren Addy, and Tyson Thompson, all of Decatur. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Rebecca Bene'(Daniel) and Jeremy Scarbrough (Abby); and, great-granddaughter, Rowan Bene'.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Addy, Jake Addy, Matthew Boggan, Cody Addy, Hal Thompson and Caleb May.
