Son of John William Behling and Mildred Marie Nelson

Husband of Aleda Tingey, 19 Sep 1939, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah

Obituary - Wesley A. Behling, son of Mildred M. Nelson and John W. Behling, passed away July 6, 2010 at the home of his youngest daughter, Kathryn.

He was born in an adobe house in Rochester, (Moore) Utah. His father died in 1921, and Mildred married Ernest R. Behling, John's half-brother.

Wesley was a "true blue Aggie," who graduated from USU in 1938 with a BS Degree in civil engineering. He married his one and only sweetheart, Aleda Tingey, in 1939. She died Nov. 20, 1980.

As a member of the army ROTC at USU, Wes was called to serve his country in World War II from May 19, 1941 to Jan. 11, 1946. He fought in Algeria, Sicily, and Italy, earning the rank of First Lieutenant.

Wesley was one of the three out of 33 applicants to pass the civil service exam in 1938 and thus became employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The next year they simplified the test. One of the highlights of his career was to be the Chief Office Engineer during the construction of the Flaming Gorge Dam. Other projects included the Central Utah Project, and Deer Creek Reservoir. He retired as a GS 13 after 38 years of service.

Our Dad was a man of honor and integrity who always took excellent care of his parents, his family, his pets, and stranded motorists. He was an independent man whose word was as good as his deed, and his handshake a solemn promise.

Wesley is survived by his son, Robert (Barbara), Ohio; his daughters, Patricia (Phelps) Helvenston, Arizona; and Kathryn (Michael) Sorich, South Jordan; grandchildren, David (Lara), Jonathan, and Jeffrey Sorich; great-grandchildren, Matilda and Charles Sorich. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lincoln, Nelson and Robert; and granddaughter, Amelia Anne Sorich.

Graveside services to be held at the Kaysville City Cemetery, Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the USU College of Engineering.
