Harley Schnabel was born July 11, 1932 south of Ashley, North Dakota to John F. and Lydia (Guthmiller) Schnabel. This is where he grew up while attending country school. He worked on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Virginia Pfeifle on December 12, 1954 in Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. They made their home on his family farm. They were general farmers raising small grains and livestock. In the early 1960's, he went south for a couple of years custom combining. In 1968 they purchased a farm northwest of Ashley, adding two more farms over their farming career. In the fall of 2008 they retired and on December 1, 2008 they moved to Wishek following their farm retirement sale. Harley enjoyed playing pool and pinochle. He loved being with people and socializing. When he was younger, he and Virginia loved going to dances. Harley attended Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley and was a member of Wishek Eagles Club and Wishek Wildlife Club. Harley is survived by this wife, Virginia, two sons, Ricky Schnabel of Selfridge, North Dakota and Garrett (Carol) Schnabel of Valley City, North Dakota, three daughters, Juanita (Ronnie) Feil of Oakes, North Dakota, Paula (Ron) Kleinsasser of Dickinson, North Dakota and Maria (Kurt) Reidman of Dazey, North Dakota, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His parents, three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
