William (Bill) G. Kaiser, age 89, of Valparaiso passed away on March 12, 2012.
He was born on April 2, 1922 in Edon, Ohio. Following High School graduation he moved to Fort Wayne, IN, becoming a manufacturing supervisor for Magnavox Co. There he met his wife June Lillian Meyer, who worked in his department. They were married on December 11, 1943 in Waco, TX, just prior to his deployment to Italy in World War II.
Bill enlisted in the Air Force in January, 1943, achieving First Lieutenant rank. He was a P-51 fighter pilot with the 325th Fighter Group, the Yellow Checkertails group, and lead the 319th Squadron. He successfully completed 50 missions and received the Air Medal, citations and commendations with oak leaves for valor and service, and the Distinguished Flying Cross medal, the highest honor granted by the Air Force. Upon returning from the Service he became general foreman at the Magnavox plant in Ft.Wayne and President of the Magnavox Foreman's Club. He had responsibility for the assembly lines that produced the first Magnavox televisions.
He moved to Valparaiso in 1959 where he became a building contractor. He built many homes and businesses in the Valparaiso area and was a member of the Homebuilder's Association. Bill was a long time member of Valparaiso First Church of the Nazarene. He served on the church board, taught Sunday School classes and worked extensively on building projects at the church, especially in the relocation of the church to its current site. Bill's great passion was mission projects, especially building churches – in Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela, Ecuador and Kenya. He was a member of the Gideon's and President of the local camp for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, June, two sons (Dean of Valparaiso, IN and Steven of Louisville, KY), three grandchildren (Alison of Charlotte, NC, Darren of Troy, OH and Ethan of Nashville, TN) and five great grandchildren, including recently arrived triplets.
He is predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Leta Kaiser, and two sisters, Lila Jean and Glenna Rose.
Visitation will be held at the Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, Thursday, March 15 from 4 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16 at 10:30am at Moeller Funeral Home. Burial is at AngelcrestCemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Gideon's International for Bibles would be appreciated. The family is more than grateful to the nurses and staff at Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation for their especially loving care and compassion to "Papa" as he was known there.
