Verona E. Meincke, age 89, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the Lake City Care Center.

She was born May 15, 1922 in Red Wing to Albert and Wilhelmina (Gaurisch) Fitschen. She grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School. On October 3, 1941 she married Robert Meincke at West Florence Immanuel Lutheran. They farmed for many years in Featherstone Township until retiring in 1981 and then moved to Lake City in 2002. After retirement the couple enjoyed traveling the world. Verona also enjoyed gardening, dancing, spending time with her family, and writing poetry. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing.

She is survived by her two children, David (Arlis) Meincke and Joyce (Dick) Dahling both of Lake City; seven grandchildren, Brian (Laurie) Meincke, Cindy (Heri) Molina, Kevin (Kristin) Meincke, Kristin (Dave) Nagel, Deb (Jim) Berg, Dusty (Brandy) Dahling, Darren Dahling; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Kunde of Goodhue and Katherine (Jerry) Bruss of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Francis Fitschen of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Gary; grandson, Steven; two brothers, Vernon and Allen.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Todd Engel. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City and for one hour prior to the service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing Saturday. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Lutheran Church and the ALS Association.
