Lawrence L. Brown served in the Civil War, in a New York Cavalry unit, which was in the battle of Gettysburg. Lawrence was badly injured in the head, when he was kicked by a horse. After a recovery period in the hospital at Baltimore, he was discharged. His pension record at the National Archives details his entire military service.
He came to California with his wife, Elizabeth Vail, probably in 1869 on the train. They are shown on the census in San Benito, Half Moon Bay, and San Francisco. They had one son, William Albert Brown. Lawrence lived his last few years at the Veterans' Home at Yountville in Napa CA. He endured physical problems his entire adult life from the Civil War wound.
Lawrence was the brother of my great grandfather, Benjamin Eseck Brown.
