Roger David Carter, 84, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday evening, March 11, 2012.

He was the son of George D. and Annie V. Carter.

He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. He retired from the Veteran's Administration Regional Office after 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Collins Carter; sister, Virginia Bright of Roanoke; and sister-in-law, Grace Carter of Louisiana and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Raymond, William, and James, and his sisters Mamie L. Garland, Pearl M. Yeatts, and Kathleen Ford.


Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Oakey's South Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Nelson Harris. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests memorials may be made to Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 2014 Memorial Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24015.
