∼Carol Ann Keppler, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the Milton Home in South Bend. Carol was born September 29, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Henry and Beth (Frye) Leiser. After his honorable discharge from the US Army during WWII, Robert Keppler met and married Carol. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Surviving are her children Carolyn McCarthy of Mundelein, Illinois, Wayne (Carol) Keppler of South Bend, Patricia (Richard) Fenters of Osceola, Jon (Jean) Keppler of Phoenix, Arizona and Rob (Carol) Keppler of Osceola. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren; Kimberly, Jenni, Kelly, Kevin, Keath, Lisa, Michelle, Amy, McKenna, Riley and 15 great-grandchildren; Connor, Kelsey, Val, Jesse, Bella, Mika, Grady, Erick, Trevor, Kaylie, Jordan, Chase, Braylen, Olivia, and Rowan. She was preceded in death by her siblings Jim, Sue, and Betty.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held in late September. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with the arrangements.
In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, was an avid reader, and loved making crafts; a passion she passed down to her children. Carol had a unique way of seeing things, which inspired her creativity when knitting, crocheting, or decorating a room. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in South Bend where she sang in the choir for more than 60 years. Carol loved to share her talent for music with others and was always singing or humming a tune. Later, she joined the Bethel Senior Choir and traveled to New York with the choir to perform at Carnegie Hall. Carol was
also was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and performed with the Presbyterian Players.
Carol worked for a short time at Sears, but the majority of her time was spent as a homemaker. She was always cheerful and adored her children beyond compare. Often, as she and the children were in the middle of their activities, she would look at them and say, "Who has more fun than we do?" Her giggles and endearing smile will be missed by all who knew her.
