On Tuesday some fellows broke into Mrs. H. Clark's second hand store on Fifth Street and gave the place a general ransacking. They gained an entrance by breaking in the back door with an axe. The plunder they obtained consisted of a gold and silver watch and two dresses which were valued by Mrs. Clark at $190. They also got away with three pies and a large cake. There was another watch and a pocket book containing $25 in currency in the show case which evidently escaped their attention. It is supposed that the thieves are two fellows who called and tried to sell the lady some goods and who were watching her when she locked the store up and started over to town. No arrests have yet been made. (Brainerd Dispatch, 02 January 1885, p. 3, c. 3) [Contributed by A. Nelson]
