Mary met and married Caryl Webster in Nov 1928 in Yakima. Four daughter were born to this marriage. Briefly, the family moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, but after experiencing a tough winter, returned to Toppenish, WA. Before 1941, the family moved to Lake Ballinger, North of Seattle, where youngest daughter Valery was born shortly before WWII.
Caryl worked as a real estate agent, and later Mary went to work at Todd's Ship Yard as a welder. By the end of the war, Caryl, not able to support his family, abandoned them, leaving only a note. Mary raised her four girls with the help of friends and family. Mary obtained a job at Lundburgs as a seamstress, commuting each day by bus from Renton to downtown Seattle. In 1973, Mary went on a well deserved vacation to Hawaii. Then retired at age 67 before the summer of 1975. Upon retirement, Mary moved back to Yakima to be closer to family, with three of her daughter's, and several grandchildren living there at the time.
Mary enjoyed gardening, planting and caring for many variety of roses, perinials, and annual flowers. She had the ultimate "green thumb". Mary also canned tomatoes, jams, and jellies, ground cherry jam being a family favorite. Mary's other hobbies included crochet and knitting afgans for everyone, baking cookies, pies, and cakes for her grandchildren (and teaching us how at the same time).
Mary lived in Yakima thru December 1993. In January 1994, Mary fell during a temporary stay at a Nursing Home and broke her hip. Less than a month later our beloved mother, grandma, and great grandma passed away.
