Enlisted, December 14, 1914, in Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. He mustered in for Mexican border service with Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, June 30, 1916. Squadron A Cavalry was assigned to Camp McAllen, Texas, with the New York Division. Squadron A returned to New York City, December 23, 1916, and mustered out of border service, December 28, 1916.

World War 1, entered service with Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry. Squadron A was reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. He attended OTC at Plattsburg Barracks, NY, and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, October 24, 1917. Discharged from the service, December 10, 191 ( reason unknown ).

Enlisted, September 11, 1918,served in the Quartermaster Remount Depot Company 333, Camp Joseph E. Johnston, Florida. Discharged from the service, December 10, 1917.
